Miri Motorsports Day

M.I.A of late with lack of updates, sorry about that but can't help it because I'm having such a great time during the long holidays..... so time best spent with the GoonS and families.. NO PC! NO Internet!

Lots of Motorsports related activities happening in Miri nowadays. More motor enthusiasts coming out of their holes and making their presence known...more of those who loves motorsports appearing out of nowhere and trying to do something for the local scenes....It's great development for Sarawak as a whole.

Miri has always been known as the Drag Capital of Borneo with Machines from all over Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei converging here for the Borneo Cup. I hear it will be even bigger this year with SARSA's involvement with several series being organised before the penultimate championship decider to be held in Miri.

Last Sunday there was a drift clinic organized by GT Motorsports. It was the first of its kind in Sarawak...yeah..we have been lagging behind in the development of Motorsport as you can see...you have to thank the tight arse of the powers that be for that..

So finally now Miri have drift & drag events.....

drift clinic instructed by AH FAI

How about grip driving? We already have a proper kart-track(boleh la juak tarit sampe gear 3 k keta)...but exclusive just for go-kart & cub prix?

Come on....In Kuching they only have the Football stadium's parking lot for them to have some fun..why can't we?

Wong Motor with their machine during practice session.

The R/C heads are one of the most active in the State..they hold their own races every weekend at our lovely go kart track parking lot. There are even three of them that actively involved competitively in international R/C races.

R/C Track @ Miri Go-Kart Track Parking Lot

Miri holds annually a track meet for R/C enthusiasts all over Malaysia held here.

At the same time and in the same venue, the dirt bikers tearing the earth with great actions too! All in these in the Go-Kart track area and its Sunday...NICE

As for myself, My last Sunday saw me indulging in abit of fun and joined VESPACOM(Vespa Club of Miri) for a joyride to Luak Bay and it was fun haha!!

I tried to do the slingshot moves like one in cub-prix but ended up with back pain..deym!

So that was my SUNDAY! How's YOURS?

Suzuki Kei Sport Formula Experience

I had never dreamt of driving one, having resigned to the fact that I'm not physically built for one.... Well, as a local ‘kampung boy’, having seen photos, videos of it in magazines, on television ....it was reserved and exclusive for ‘the one’.

Those who were born with fullface helmets affixed to the head, those who had the balls..the talented ones..

Well..... not exactly.

The location is none other than the temporary carpark circuit at Petra Jaya Sports Center. I was anticipating the days to finally meet it in flesh, having seen it on in the Suzuki sport website years before ... the urge to finally caress its body growing in each minute.

Suzuki offeres 2 models for this race series, the novice one which uses a Suzuki Kei sport turbocharged engine while the one for the pro’s would be powered by the free-revving Suzuki Hayabusa engine, mated to a Hewland sequential mission.Wicked.

Well, it arrived on time, tucked on the flatbed truck before it was slowly moved to the circuit for our inspection. Its size is well within for new racers, and I have to admit it suited me well. To be exact, removal of the steering was necessary for me to enter.haha

This machine had been pimped with a set of Desmond Evo Regamaster with Dunlop Direzza semi’s, not the same as you would seen in the website but it will do the work.

The engine cover was removed, revealing the turbocharged lump. What caught my attention was the NSX style air-intake inlet duct, directing serious air to the intercooler. Placed on top of driver’s head, it looks damn cool, projecting the ‘im-serious-m-gonna-eat-you’ look.

The seats was another different story. There was no ‘Blide Row Mex’ nor 'Ricaro' seat, only a piece of structure to support the driver’s body with Willians harness strapping for the driver's safety. A racing fuel tank was placed directly behind the seat. I absolutely love the front spoiler, and as the technicians installed it to the machine, the ‘ikan jos tukol’ look emerged. Man…

Then came the opportunity. I was invited to drive the car, and manage to thrash it for a good 5 laps around the circuit. My first experience in an open wheel car had me properly look at every possibility of going faster around the track. Man, it is a 100k worth race car, and the officials repeatedly told me to not gunned it.hahah..

I make myself comfortable, noting first the close placement of gear shifter. Trying to shift was not a problem, but what worries me was the open wheel and the possibilty of projectiles flying from it and the fact that I had no helmets on. Haha.

Cool as it might seem, first lap I drive slowly, intimately getting myself acquainted with it while at the same time ensuring the brakes were warmed to the required temperature, not exactly that grippy, yet enough for on-spot braking. I am not racing mind you...

After turn 3, I tap the throttle and the car accelerates without mercy, fast but shockingly still in control. The stretch seems short, and suspension were jigging along the way, proof of the stiffness of the suspension. The Hairpin was taken with half throttle before the throttle was fully open for the short straight. response was electric!! Damn, I love this car.

My take on this machine, as an entry level machine, it forces you to think while you race it. Every corner, braking points was magnified experience wise ...it made me think of the braking point for the usually easy turn 6, and this was at a speed within my control. Shumi and Lewis would think the otherwise for sure lah..

Talking about shumi and open wheel racing, the next season would be interesting as Lotus returns to F1. My eye’s were on those aggressive drivers and surely Mercedes.

As the car was lifted back on the flatbed truck, I wondered, what if the logo on the red body was Ferrari..Damn, Ferrari...dare I dream?

Blame It On The Rain!

The Monsoon has descended upon us and when it rains, it pours!
I have to bitch about those drivers out there driving with their hazards on!!

For God's sake people...don't use the hazards while moving along ...even when visibility is near zero!! indicate left to show your presence if you must!! but having hazards on you'll scare the wits out of people who are just right behind you!

I damn near had to slam on the brakes when this White Lancer MX Evo wannabe suddenly switched on its hazards while on the Fast Lane down North-South Highway one fine heavy downpour day....

the driver even had the decency to stare 'cock' right back at me when i honked and flashed him out of the way....niceeeee...kids nowadays taught by their decent parents...must had a whore as a mom and a leper dad...The Fast lane is not for you to HOG OK!!! especially if you're doin 60 on a 110 stretch! we all can't be made to suffer if you have no skills driving in the wet or your piece of crap CK2A don't do rain!! Hopeless!!

While we are on the rainy days note....I noticed that the E140 has great handling in soaking conditions...here I am doing well over 180 and these Altis are flying left and right around me leaving me in their wake....like i was standing still!!!
damnnn...these Altis must have great handling in the wet....either that or Altis drivers have balls made out of aluminum or just plain clueless of the dangers of aquaplaning..but I dare say Altis are made for the rain...its nimble and quick in the rain!

I count no less than 8 Altis during the 2 hours drive up to Melaka and no less than 5 on the way back to KL in torrential whether too!

People drive safe and sensibly In The rain!!! and..stay out of my way pleaseeeee...

p/s: RainMaster has announced a comeback to F1 with Mercedes in the 2010 season..expect to see him on Malaysian roads training in the wet!! That's how he got to be so good in the wet...experiencing first hand malaysian bad roads + monsoon conditions.

you know what they say about flies....

ahhh soooo....it would seem we have terribly neglected the blog but year ends has always been an extremely busy period for us...

besides..the peeps we update the blogs for are now all gathered in one place and practically see each other every single day...

one of us moved to a greener pasture and we have yet to hear from him but I do believe he has tons of stories to tell us...Webb was overwhelmed with an exploding Jeep and somehow has gotten himslef drafted into another OldSkool Project...we have peeps like Bambangs, Bob-Ious and The Mad One diving into the deep end of Blings and glossy new coats of paints...we have the likes of Reen The Weak growing balls and strutting his stuffs in Go-Karts Time Attacks, Kelly was sadly totaled in an incident but will be resurected, The Hardtop 35 has found a more deserving owner, and so so much more happenings...you all know rite?

My reason for the lack of updates? I was somehow thrown into the thick of things having flown in from far far away places to be flown to serene, exotic, beautiful Mulu to accompany my 411 brethren from BC....to show him wonderous Sarawak..Whiteman!! you better recognised and appreciate my efforts!! (..why do you have to bring up the race cardsss..)

We traveled the whole length of Borneo Air more times than i can count!! Jetlagged as I was at the time, having just flown into Kuching from overseas...I climbed into the Graceful Lady of Borneo, the last remaining Fokker50 in MAS fleet (airasia cannibilised the rest of the fleet having cheated the people of Sarawak to run the RuralAirService just so that they can get a airline license to get AirAsiaX running...sneaky...but what more would you expect from a ******) and fly all over Borneo in the lovely ATR 72, Boeing 737s-300, Twin Otter 16 and an unpleasant experience onboard an A320..
I went three times more along the length of Borneo Land in a Superlicious Getz, A Burly Vigo Hilux and finally The Evowara (acid test for its modds)

KK was beautiful! Mount Kinabalu was extreme to say the least...unlike other peaks that are much higher...it is brutal with its gradient climb...hats off to the 'Whiteman' who did it in 4hours..

Mukah,Jurdan,Dalat and Oya was a trip never to be forgettten...I heart the river excursions!! experience you should try once in your lifetime!!

...its almost time again for all of us to go our own ways...so expect to see more updates soon...

2009 is coming to an end...I can't say I would miss it but then I never look back anyways..so here's to another year...2010...Godspeed and Good Luck to us all!!
